Trying To Be Normal

The life of a striking girl can be quite bittersweet. On one hand, she constantly meets new people, but on the other, she doesn’t truly get to know anyone, as everything she builds carries hints of superficial interest. No relationship feels authentic. For some, her usefulness ends in the morning; for others, she’s deemed untrustworthy simply because she dares to pose in revealing clothes, which automatically makes her promiscuous.

Alayna sighs at the beach. There's no one beside her, and it bothers her less and less over time because, if there’s one thing an Eastham doesn’t appreciate, it’s precisely superficial bonds. But how do you achieve the opposite? That’s the question she asks herself with a relatively annoyed expression.

How do you make friends who don’t think you’re some floozy trying to steal their boyfriend? How do you make male friends who don’t see you as something more? Perhaps what Bruna told her is true: "Don’t look for friends or love in the capital of sin", referring to London. For a moment, she felt like Bruna in those hippie-like reflections Bruna loves so much. Alayna shivers.

-Whatever- she says with a sigh. -Maybe I don’t have those friends to talk to all day, every day, or a partner to settle down with... but I’m still the most beautiful girl in the world.

Alayna looks around again. There’s no one.

-Although I guess it’s like being the most beautiful tree in an uninhabited forest. Oh well!
