The smell of chlorine mixed with the aroma of the rented house was different but quite pleasant, they were far away from the incessant noise of Tokyo. He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling the water against his skin.
"You look calmer now." Taichi said as he kicked the water with his feet.
Daniel let out a light laugh. "I think your idea really worked."
"You're too tense." His son said a few weeks ago. "You're going to end up carrying the scalpel to the altar this way." So it was Taichi who suggested that they leave the city for a few days. He knew that his father was overwhelmed; not only with the incessant work at the hospital, but also with the wedding preparations.
The comment made Daniel laugh at the time, but it also made him realize that he needed to slow down a bit and allow himself to relax for a while. Now, there, cooking like a crab in the water, he allowed himself to feel the moment.
His thoughts wandered to Saburo, the man who, in a month, would officially become his husband. It was weird to think about it, not because he had any doubts or was hesitating. After years dedicated only to work, Daniel never imagined that he would find someone with whom he wanted to share his life in this way again.
"You're thinking about him, right?" Taichi asked, gesturing with his hand, getting out of the pool and wrapping himself in the towel. "You're smiling like that."
Daniel shook his head, laughing. "Like how?"
"Like someone who is in love."
