Noah froze, jaw tightening. She said the name so casually, like it didn’t taste like battery acid on her tongue.
Henry.
The guy wasn’t anything special. Nice enough. Normal. The kind of man women dated when they were done waiting for people like Noah to grow up. And Chela… she deserved someone like that, didn’t she? Someone who’d actually show up.
Still, the thought of her with him twisted something ugly in his chest. He tried to laugh it off, failed miserably. “Yeah, well, maybe I just don’t like his face.”
Blair snorted from under the blanket. “You don’t like anyone’s face when they’re standing next to her.”
Noah said nothing. The apartment was quiet except for the faint clatter from the kitchen, Dean muttering to himself as he searched for a clean pan. Blair shifted, pulling the blanket higher, already half gone into her nap.
And Noah sat there, staring at the ceiling, pretending like he wasn’t picturing Chela laughing at something Henry said. Pretending like he hadn’t already lost before he even tried.
