"Fuuuuck." The word ripped through the quiet with wild desperation. She moved backwards, hitting the wall behind her. The grip on the knife relaxed without her permission, as her fingers felt numb, almost disconnected from her own will. The clatter of metal on the asphalt barely registered in her ears.
Her breath hitched. Blinked rapidly, as though trying to wake up from a dream that would not let go. But this was not a dream. It was reality. The body sprawled on the sidewalk was real. The blood pooling beneath it was real. The sticky warmth covering her hands—too much of it—was real.
No. No, no, no.She didn't know them. She had no memory of seeing them, no understanding of what had led her here. And yet, she had done this.
The realization brought a wave of panic in her.
"What the hell is happening to me?" Squeezed her eyes shut, as if that could make the whole scene disappear, as if that could rewind time. But when she opened them, it was all still there. The body. The blood. The horror. And the headache.
It built slowly at first, a distant pressure at the base of her skull. Then, a burning, electric pain inched its way down the back of her neck and along her spine. Like something was trying to burrow into her nerves and burn them out from the inside.
And, suddenly...
pain. Fucking, unbearable pain.
Blackouts were getting worse. They didn't last seconds anymore. They lasted minutes. And in those minutes she was gone. Someone, or better
something else, took her place.
The more time she spent lost in the void, the more damage she caused.
