Skateboard Adventures with a Six Year Old

Teddy's little hand was in hers, their house was just a short walk from London Skate Park. Evie was not sure if watching the older kids skate past our place in the afternoons sparked her sudden interest, but I agreed to take Teddy to the park, and Carter would meet us there after he ran some errands.

"Alright, buddy. Now we gotta put the helmet on here..." Evie said, kneeling to the six-year-old's level as his eyes widened watching the bigger kids skate around him. And we have some knee and wrist pads, so if someone bumps into you, you're even bigger, tougher, and stronger!" Evie looked at Teddy with a playful grin, and he looked back at her proudly.

With the skateboard in front of them, Evie helped Teddy on. "I'm gonna ride a skateboard!" he proclaimed loudly, and she nodded at him, "Sure are, buddy. Let's see if we can impress Daddy when he comes to meet us." Holding on to Teddy's hands, Evie guided him, moving slowly to get him used to the board's movement.

"I want to try and push off!" Teddy eagerly said, and Evie nodded, "Alright, I'll be right here, and you can reach out to me if you need me."

She watched as her favourite six-year-old bestie pushed off and rolled slowly. His little legs shook at the end, as he called out, "I don't know how to stop!" He fell dramatically to the side and onto the grass. It wasn't a hard fall, so when Evie rushed over to him, he turned over and looked proud. "I did it!"

Evie sat beside him on the grass and nodded, "Yeah you did!" She glanced up to see Carter going through the Skate Park, looking through the sea of people. When her eyes met his, love radiated right through her body. "Did you wanna show Daddy your brand new skill?" She pointed up to Carter, and Teddy looked over. "YEAH!" He replied enthusiastically, getting to his feet.

When Carter joined him, Teddy showed off his skateboard roll, a proud milestone moment for the little family. Evie cuddled into her husband.
