Black dress. Sharp nails. A bracelet that glinted every time she lifted her glass. The bartender tried to smile politely, but she gave him a look that said, Don’t start with small talk unless you’re pouring truth into that glass too.“Rough night?”
he finally asked.“Yeah. My heart’s playing tricks on me again.”
She smirked. Lexie swirled the drink in her glass, watching the liquid catch the light like it had answers no one else gave her,“I hate being treated differently, Like just because I don’t play the favorite, I’m supposed to be okay with less, or because I’m your favorite, I don’t get that "thing", cos maybe forgot, or maybe the thought I already get a lot, so I shouldn’t complain if I get missed. Can anyone really love more than one person fairly?”
She looked up at him, furrowed her brow slightly, glass still in hand. “You ever been in something… polygamous?”
The bartender looked back at her and blurted a question “Are you?”
“Nah… I’m not. Never mind. I’m just rambling. Heart’s drunker than I am.”
She answered while her hand played with her bracelet again, her eyes drifting back to her arm. Then she took a little sip of her drink.“Too much watching soap operas, I guess,”
she muttered to her glass, then finished the rest in one smooth sip.
